when they found your body / giant x's on your eyes / and with your half of the ransom / you bought some sweet, sweet, sweet / sweet sunflowers / and gave them to the night // underneath the star of david / a hundred years behind my eyes / and with my half of the ransom / i bought some sweet, sweet, sweet / sweet sunflowers / and gave them to the night // sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet sunflowers / and gave them to the night

Alan's Notes:

some people thing this song is morbid, but it's a love song. it was hard to nail the middle section because zak and i have a habit of slowing down too much when there is no drums driving things - took a couple takes. danelectro 12-strings are cool.

Personal Thoughts:

The beginning of a warmer sound! One of my favorite songs from the band... It portrays a bit of melancholy, but also a lot of strong hope. The strings and banjo coming in are like the sun finally rising. You feel like you can start to live, breathe again. It's so sweet.

Live:

Their most popular song to play in live shows, with over 300 known appearances. Had steady showings throughout their touring career, and kept an arrangement similar to the studio recording (although with just bass in the bridge).
